Back in March, HFC was one of a number of charities collaborating to offer foster homes to colony cats living in a garden in London. We were able to provide shelter for three young, tabby and white friends, Ember, Flame and Smokey. The cats were initially cared for at our Cat Cabins before taking up a foster care place arising in Ashford (Surrey) where they have remained.

We have arranged vet treatment and prepared Ember, Flame and Smokey for re-homing. As they had been living stray, we tested the cats for the FIV virus and these results were all negative.

The friends currently live inside at their foster home. Whilst content and sweet natured, their background means that they are unlikely to become affectionate lap cats:

Ember (1 year, 6 months), who was foster mum to Flame and Smokey, still watches over her younger friends, letting them eat before she does. She has started sitting on the sofa behind her Foster Carer for short periods.

Flame (female, 9 months) is the most confident of the cats. She approaches her Carer, accepts the occasional fuss and sometimes sits on her bed.

Smokey (male, 9 months), who has a healthy appetite, can sometimes be boisterous and push his friends aside at mealtimes.

Ember, Flame and Smokey would ideally like an “outside to inside” home together. Initially, they would live in a cosily prepared outbuilding as their base. Once they have built trust in the new environment and have progressed to spending time outside, we are keen that the cats each have access inside their adopter’s home. This will hopefully lead to one, or more, of them spending more time inside and perhaps moving in as they feel ready, but we are keen that it is their decision.

This style of re-homing will first require HFC set up of a large pen in the outbuilding for a short time to allow the cats to adjust to their new location and for us to be able to check in with their adopter(s) initially.

If you are interested in offering this special type of home to Ember, Flame and Smokey, please complete our application form and we will be in touch. Thank you.
